Barbara Hepworth Museum

Barbara Hepworth 1903-1975 was a well known Sculptor who was born in Wakefield but who lived in St Ives most of her later life. She along with Henry Moore was a key figure of the abstract sculptors movement and her work was noted for her holes in the sculptures to make the solid form more transparent. She was interested in creating forms that were derived from nature and many of her works have a rounded almost sea weathered shape. She asked in her will that her gardens be open to the public and they are now run as part of the Tate gallery in St Ives.
