Pendennis Castle

With the largest natural harbour in the UK, Falmouth was always going to have security issues and Pendennis Castle along with its sister castle St Mawes on the other side of the River Fal was originally built between 1540 and 1545. Although the castle has been upgraded since then, its strategic importance has never diminished and it saw a lot activity during the Civil War and World War 2.

Pendennis Castle is now maintained by English Heritage and is a fascinating place to visit a strategic monument that has maintained the country's security for almost 500 years.
