Tate Gallery St Ives

Tate Gallery St Ives

The Tate gallery St Ives is one of the country's top galleries in a stunning location overlooking Portmeor Beach St Ives.

In addition to being one of the top holiday destinations in Cornwall, St Ives has attracted artists for many years.

A local painter Alfred Wallis painted in a direct, simplistic almost primitive style and this influenced a number of abstract artists who moved to the area in the mid 20th Century. These artists are now known as the St Ives school of painters and include such notable painters as Patrick Heron, Bryan Wynter, Roger Hilton amongst others. The success of these painters led to the Tate Gallery opening a gallery in the fantastic location of overlooking Porthmeor beach in St Ives in 1993. The gallery features work by the St Ives school in addition to other visiting exhibitions and family activities, so this must not be missed by anyone who has an interest in art.
