July 2014 Update

The year is flying by and it is nice that we have had good weather recently. Much as the winter storms seem like a distant memory, the hard work of repairing the damage is still ongoing and in some cases yet to be done at all.

Penzance sea front repair

in Penzance for example, work is taking place on repairing the sea fron next to the Promenade between Penzance and Newlyn. Howvere, there is still no news on repairing the landmark Penzance Jubilee Pool Lido as the finance is currently not forthcoming. There is a campaign to raise funding for it at JubileePool.co.uk

In past centuries, small fishing villages built their harbours to protect their livelihood as without being able to fish in the winter, they would not be able to eat. The community probably all pulled together and worked for no wages. Today, we now have the tools to build or repair harbour walls safely, but they are very expensive. In the case of Penzance, there is some funding available, but for small villages like Lamorna, this is far more uncertain.

On a lighter note. July has some good festivals like Golowan and Lafrowda day, so make the most of the summer.
